Summer Reading Assignments

Macbeth
Journal Writing—Keep a Free writing journal or log.

Choose one of the following and write as you read:

(a) Write a list of the chronological sequence of events of the play.
or
(b) Write a diary of one of the major characters,recording in diary form what the character is doing and feeling in his her important scenes..
or
(c) Write about one or more of the themes of the play that develop as you read and how they are interpreted by Shakespeare, and how they relate to the modern world. The Themes are: things are not what they seem, blind ambition, superstition and its effects on human behavior. Tell the Page where the theme is evident so we can discuss this in class.
or
(d) Write a response journal about your personal interaction with the play.


Your writing needs to be at least 500 words to do the requested task adequately. It is due the first day of class (Sept.6th) when we will begin discussing the text. We will also discuss the play on the 2nd day of class Sept 9th.

Great English Short Stories
We will discuss the story Tobermory pp.126-132 on the 3rd day of class Sept.13th.Underline the places where you notice the author is making fun of (satirizing) upper class English people of the period.
