Chapter IV

1. Lucy’s little adventure backfires. What reaction does she have to what happens? 10 pts.
2. Why does she ask George not to talk about the incident? 10 pts.
3. What is the importance/significance of this encounter to both George and Lucy? George knows it is something but Lucy is in a muddle but she know that whatever has happened is good. 25 pts.

Chapter V

1. Mr. Beebe plans an outing to Torre del Gallo. Why do Lucy and Charlotte decline?20 pts.

 2. As Lucy and Charlotte run errands, what does Lucy recall? 10 pts.

 3. How will Miss Lavish change the events of the real murder to suit her novel? 20 pts.

 4. Mr. Eager tells Lucy and Charlotte about M. Emerson's past. Do you believe his misinformation to Lucy and Charlotte? Why? 20Pts.

Chapter VI

1. On the drive to the hills, Mr. Beebe imagines the Italian driver as an example of two allusions. But, Mr Eager rejects picking up Persephone. Why? What what could this all mean in the context of the story? 25 pts.

2. Though Mr. Eager lives full time in Italy, he show lack of understanding of events in this chapter. What are they? 15 pts.

3. The Italian driver takes Lucy to a “good man”, not the one she expects. Describe what happens. 20 pts.

Chapter VII

1. Worry about George emerges during the lightening strike; Lucy is worried about what? 10pts.

2. Lucy and Charlotte are leaving for Rome to visit friends from England. Why is Lucy even thinking of repenting for the kiss? 10 pts.

3. Describe the muddle Lucy is now in. How does Charlotte continue to disappoint her? 20 pts.

1. What does Mr. Beebe mean when he says Lucy needs to learn to live as she plays the piano? What is the power of music? 20 pts.

Act II  Questions (please add page number of where you find the answer)

Scene V pp.114-120

1.     Why does Cromwell tell More there are no Charges and Rich to write down that fact?

2.     What is Cromwell’s purpose in bringing up the Holy Maid of Kent?

3.     Cromwell says there is a charge: More’s helping the King to write the book  A Defense of the Seven Sacraments.  Discuss how Cromwell can use this to trap More.

4.     Will Cromwell continue to frighten More?

Scene VI pp.120-126

1.     Why won’t the boatman pick Thomas More up?

2.     More then meets Norfolk  and tries to dissuade him from continuing to be his friend.  Why?

3.     Will Roper interrupts this scene to bring news of an Act of Parliament.  What is it and why is it important?

 Scene VII pp.126-148

1.     Why is it ill-advised for the jailer to free More?

2.     Why do we learn the fates of Cromwell, Rich, and Norfolk ahead of the actual time in the story?

3.     Why does More refuse to sign the Act of Succession?

4.     How does the jailer actually help More?

Please finish adding info from the Preface to the timeline if you have not done so.  Also read and write a summary of Act I Scenes I, II, III.  pp 3-top of 29.  Start a list of the main characters you meet so far.  Put two characters per page as you will have a great deal of info about each.  Addwhat you notice about each as you read.  Please highlight words and/or stage directions of import!


Do section iv of the test.  Put answers on  grid, please.

Finish all questions, vocabulary and charts for chapters 17-21 of Frankenstein.  Then go to p.28 of the packet.  Do the focus activity,  read the background information, and use the vocabulary words in a Frankenstein sentence.

Read and annotate Chapts.22-24.

From these chapters get quotes to fill in the chart on pg.29.

• Complete pg.21.
• On pg.22 answer q 3.  Pg.23 4 and 5.  Then Write a brief essay on the conflicting aspects of his personality.  Use the questions on pg.23- Literature and Writing: Friend or Foe?  to help you write this.
• Pg. 24 do Focus Activity.
• Read Chapters 17-21.  Annotate your book.
• Do page 25.

We will discuss the cnd and finish the packet and do one final writing. Have a good break!

1. Read Chapters 11-15 of Frankenstein. 
2.  On pg.20 in your packet, write out your response to the focus activity  Also read the background information.
3. On page 21, fill out the chart in detail.  Include actions/experiences aswell as thoughts and fellings.  Indicate the pages where you find these details.  Do an inadequade job and you will have another quiz!!
4. On pg.22, do the Response and answer q. 1,2,3.

Work for Friday 10 February & Tuesday 14 February12

1. Please read and highlight the first five chapters of Frankenstein.  In your packet, make sure you have done the focus activity  and have read the background material, plus put the vocabulary words into sentences on pg. 18.
2. As you are reading, fill out as much as you can of the chart on page 17.  Write the page number where you discovered each new character as you fill in the details.  After  you read , write responses to all of page 18.
3. After you read chapters 6-10 due Tuesday Feb 14 , answer the 2 questions at the top .  Then Write a  few paragraphs on Lit and Writing about the Gothic features and select one bulleted topic from Extending you response to write about.

Read and Mark the Robert Walton Letters and the Diary entry 1 1/2 pages right before Chapt 1 begins.  Do all of pp.13,14, and on p.15 questions 4-5.  Write 4-5 sentences per answer.  Write carefully and if you need more space write on a sheet of  looseleaf, please!  Ms. Barbara

Begin reading the Frankenstein packet and highlight important facts on  pp. 9-11.  Study the facts.
On Page 12 write out a journal answering the focus question on paper and put in your binder.
Then Read the background info .  Know what an allusion is and put the 7 vocabulary words in intelligent sentences. also in notebook.  See You Friday!

This is an opportunity to get caught up on any journals from the Great Divorce.  The marking period closes Fri. and the grades for Chapts. 1-9 will be included.

Work For 17 January 2012

Please do the next two chapters in the Great Divorce. Read Chapters 7&8. Make a double entry journal sheet. In the top Full Space tell who are the Characters in that story. Then In the left column write a summary of what happens in the chapter while using good quotes (at least 5-6) that tell more about the story. Then in the right hand column write what the meaning of the story is, including the lesson of the story as well as why the Ghost does not take the invitation to go to Heaven.
